The title of this post is a question I was asked recently by a friend who was planning on visiting Dublin. Having been there many times myself he would have heard me go on about it quite a bit so who better to ask than this ol blabbermouth – always only too willing to put my 2 cents in 😉
The thing is you should always rent the car before you arrive into Dublin. There are plenty of good reasons for doing this
1) You will save a lot of money. Just arriving on the scene with no car booked means that you could end up paying a lot more than you expected.
2) Choice of rental car. You may have a specific car in mind that you would like to drive such as a people carrier hire only to turn up and find they only have small budget cars left or vice versa.
3) You may turn up and find they have no cars left at all. During peak periods cars get booked up fast so often demand can outstrip supply.
My best advice is to use a Dublin Airport car hire website such as http://www.carhiredublin-airport.co.uk/. This means you will get a choice of cars from several firms. You could go straight to Hertz or Avis or whoever but by doing that you will only have their fleet of cars to choose from.
